Islamic Literature, An Introductory History with Selections

Afghani scholar, Najib Ullah, who taught, among other places at Princeton, gives a treasury of Persian, Arabic, and Turkish literature with many fresh translations. Professor Ullah give some glimpses into pre-Islamic Middle Eastern literature. He doesn't go into ancient Mesopotamian literature.

If you don't already have a view of the depth and sophistication of classical Islamic written culture through 1800 C.E., this book is an excellent introduction. If you do, it is an excellent and reliable supplement to a hugh area in time and space.

This is a very beautiful and inspiring book.
